The idea
01
On top of regular holiday — five working days per year in most states, or ten days over two years in others.
02
Your salary continues during a recognised seminar. You invest time, not your livelihood.
03
Travel, accommodation, and seminar fees can often be claimed as income-related expenses — keep your receipts.
Next step
Choose your federal state to see deadlines, days, and specifics — including a clear warning if no law applies.
Federal states
Select your federal state. Bavaria and Saxony have no educational-leave law — you will see a clear warning there.
How to apply
In your federal state the application is due 6 weeks before the start.
Confirm whether your federal state has an educational-leave law and whether you have completed the required waiting period with your employer.
Select a seminar recognised in your federal state — for example a retreat on Gran Canaria.
6 weeks before
Submit the written application in time before the seminar starts — six weeks in most states.
Your employer reviews the request. Refusal is only possible in narrow statutory exceptions.
Seminar week
You attend the seminar days. Your salary continues — and the break from stress begins.
Afterwards
After the course, submit the certificate to your employer and keep it for your tax return.
